I am a big fan of the run game. Just to be clear when making these remarks. I have at times loved having a team that could just muscle opponents with the run whether they liked it or not.
But I don't think these Rams have the run blocking to enforce it when the other team is ready for it and wants to stop it.
How many games this year has Gurley had 25 carries? Not that I'm against it, but I think the Rams have won a lot of games when he didn't.
If the Eagles, or any defense, says "We're not going to let Gurley beat us on the ground. Let's see if Goff can do it.", then you have to take what they give you.
Running to no effect into a stone wall won't prove anything, and may actually reduce carry opportunities if it results in a lot of 3 and outs.
The Rams are going to have to find and exploit whatever weakness in the Eagle defense is there. If it's the run, fine, but if not, then also fine.
The correlation between running back carries and wins is often because a team first gets a big lead and then runs the ball a lot.
Not that they got the big lead by running the ball first.
