The more I read, the less Arians has a viable arguement

As I said in an earlier post; you can absolutely hit a defense player. You can absolutely block or otherwise engage with a defenseless player. What you can't do is get too rough with them.

A long snapper as a defenseless player then can't have a guy on his nose such that he gets too easily clobbered, especially since Long Snappers are usually LB sized guys and not OL sized guys.

But.... charging through a gap at his right or left should does not break the defenseless player rule provided at the snap he has no one on his nose and the nearest player is further away than his shoulder pads.

If we interpret the rule the way Arians wants to, then the gaps between the LS and his blockers on either side of him are off limits to the defense. Nothing says such a thing even if Arians feels that is what he intended the rule to deal with. Might they re-write the rule in the off season? Yeah. I doubt it. Because the goal is not to stop blocked kicks; the goal is to not have the Long Snapper injured.

Ok. But is that really the rule?

RockRam218December 06, 2017 03:03AM

OK. I just Google and found something on the rule.

  Hmmm... I dunno...

EternalHorns180December 06, 2017 03:32AM

Agreed. This is all I've been able to find that is at least semi-official (nm)
