Hi everyone, thought I would share my Gary Jeter story since hearing of his passing. Was sad to hear it, he provided me one of my best ever Ram experiences. It was a LONG time ago and I’ll never forget it.
Here goes.... Pretty sure it was 1986, Monday night game in Chicago. Wandering around downtown, early afternoon & I see Gary. Now my girlfriend says “you’re from Pittsburgh, how would you know that’s a Ram?” But I knew. I called his name out, he came over. I say i’m a huge fan, visiting Chicago, game’s a sellout, wishing him much luck. After many questions, like why am I not a Steeler fan....why Ram’s... he reached in his pocket, pulled out 2 tickets, said “enjoy the game”!!! Oh and by the way, told me where the team hotel was to come by & “see the guys”. YIKES!
I was so excited, players were in the lobby waiting for the bus. I got to meet many of them, got autographs.... anyone remember Dieter Brock? Yep our quarterback. Jim Everet was there too. And Eric Dickerson, had a great chat with him. And then I about passed out, there was Jack Youngblood! What a great guy.
On to the game where my seats were among fellow Ram’s family & friends. We won the game on a last minute field goal by Mike Landsford, so exciting to be at Soldier Field that night. Thank you Gary Jeter, R.I.P.
I’ve been around this board for a long time, feel like I know so many of you. After reading Stlramz beautiful post about his game experience yesterday I am so fired up about the future of my beloved Ram’s. I love the passion & knowledge you all share, thank you for that.
Thanks for reading!
