Seems like a strange choice to me. Herm has been out of coaching on any level for 9 years and hasn't coached on the college level since 1989 when he was the defensive backs coach at San Jose State University. I know Dick Vermeil returned as an NFL head coach from the broadcast booth, but it just seems like an odd career path to me. Will have to see how he does with it.
The AD is his former agent and Herm has coached AAU teams for the last 8 years.
He has also been invited to both SC and Alabama to visit the programs and speak to the athletes, so he's stayed close to the game.
I don't think there will be anyone better in young athlete's homes.
He has quite a presence.
I wasn't aware that Herm had done any recent coaching at all so thanks for the additional info, la.I've always liked Herm and hope he does well in his new gig. Seems like I get to see a few Arizona/Arizona State games late on Saturday nights every season so I'll be watching.
