A trap game? No. The Rams completely understand that this is a division opponent; a rival in some ways. And the Cards are a pretty solid and well coached team with some great players in a few spots.
But, if everything went right for the Cards and everything went wrong for the Rams could the Rams lose? Of course.
But the Rams won't overlook the Cards.
And despite Fitzgerald's comment that this is a different team now than the one that got whipped 33-0 in London, that's an exaggeration. Basically, the Cards now have a 7 year journeyman QB instead of Palmer.....who only played about half the game. They've not improved the team at any position.
I watched the Cards-Jags. I saw terrible QB play by Bortles throughout. The only good stuff he did was when he ran the ball. I saw an absurdly horrible play call with the Jags deep in their own territory: with seconds to go on the game clock and utterly no hope that they could get anywhere near FG territory. The game was tied, it was 2nd down, and the OC called for a pass play (instead of a run) that fell incomplete, stopping the clock without forcing the Cards to use their final timeout. That extra timeout allowed the Cards to get way on the fringe of FG territory with an amazing catch on the sidelines, and then their kicker kicked a 57 yard winner as time was expiring.
The Cards didn't win; the Jags lost. And BTW: this is why the Jags are going nowhere should they get into the playoffs. They do dumb stuff and have no legitimate QB (Eli Manning moving to Jax next season to re-up with Coughlin?).
So. Could the Rams lose this game? Certainly. But it won't be because they are cocky or unfocused. It will be because the Cards played over their heads and have some good fortune; and everything goes wrong for the Rams.
I can't see the Rams losing this game. They understand what is at stake. And don't think they aren't aware of the Eagles-Seahawks with a good chance that if the Rams win, they'll end the day 2 games ahead of Seattle with 4 to play. Huge incentive.
