He's not better than what I thought. The popular opinion is to blame the QB when an offense is not producing at a level that people expect. But, the QB is part of a system. A lot of the success a QB has depends on what is going on around him. A big part of it is what the defense is expecting and what the offense as a whole dictates to the defense, thus determining how it allows itself to be attacked.
Keenum didn't have a lot to work with last year, but still he played well in spots. So now that he has more stability around him, I for one am not surprised that he is having success.
It's the people who didn't analyze the situation who are surprised; and the same can be said about people who are surprised about how Jared Goff has played.
People saw Colin Kaepernick and RGIII have success early in their careers and they thought that the game had changed to the point that all QBs needed to do was run around and the rest would easily take care of itself. That wasn't the case, and now neither of the two guys who were supposed to be the future of the NFL at the QB position is even in the league.
