Most people don't know how to evaluate sports, or much else, anymore. Video games and talk radio have caused most people (so called experts above all) to emphasize 'having a take' over actual content. The result is what you see and hear week to week on radio and television. And you can't even find popular sources for real analysis of literature, film or music.
It's part of the dumbing down of mass culture and its media.
