The "line rotation" is completely about the NT position because the Rams don't have a true 3-4 NT. They need to get one and I'll bet the house you'll see them make that a priority in the off season.
The other thing they are going to have to look at is an impact OLB. They need a guy who can rush the passer consistently. Barwin has clearly lost a step and is no longer a legitimate pass rush threat. Quinn is a shell of himself and remains a classic 4-3 DE (not a 3-4 OL
. For certain Quinn will be cut at the end of the season, and very likely Barwin as well.
However, to me, all else being equal, the position that can help Wade's D the most is a really good run stuffing NT. And this will be the Ram's D Achilles Heel the remainder of the year.
All this line shuffling is an attempt to put lipstick on a pig. But no 280 lb. DT/DE is going to keep Centers and Guards off our ILB's.
Who is the next Vince Wilfork? That's what is needed the most.
