It's currently a strange mix that is mostly frustrating.

What is really strange is the weird nature of all important ball placement.

First, a referee eyeballs forward progress of the ball. Good luck with that.
Then he takes the ball, runs with it somewhere inside the hash marks and lays it down. Exactly on the same plane as he marked it where it actually came to rest? Of course not!

Then, a Center bends over the ball, picks it up and moves it all around.
Then on the next play, the referee again makes an eyeball call on ball placement. If it is close to first down in his estimation, then they come out with chains that aren't necessary pulled out perfectly parallel to the sideline (in other words, they aren't necessarilyy straight), and then decide down to the eyelash if it is a first down or not.

So to use replay to decide whether a ball is an inch short of the goal line when to the naked eye it appears to have crossed the goal line is ludicrous to me. It's kind of a fantasy. And even then, those painted on lines, especially on a grass field, are fuzzy and not sharply delineated nor are they perfectly straight.

Ergo, it's just nonsense for these goal line replays.
Let the ref call it and live with it.

What I think is more important are plays like PI. Those are critical since they can move the ball forward by dozens of yards at a time. But even then, it's often a matter of judgment as to how much interference so as to constitute technical interference or it is "incidental".

The replay official in NY is killing this game.

I agree. The replay is WAY over used and relied upon.
