I am a huge fan of FiveThirtyEight and Nate Silver, but that video was utter “rubbish.” If the Rams lose and go to 4-3 their playoff chances plummet to 18%? No way, no how. Besides, in this video there is no explanation whatsoever behind their calculations— none!
It's most likely a statistical analysis of 4-3 teams throughout history, with no consideration to current teams within the division, their records, injuries, etc.
For example, if the Rams lose they would be tied with Arizona and at most 1/2 game back of Seattle. Granted they'd be behind in the tie breakers with both but with 1 game remaining with each. Even at that they'd be no less than a 33% chance of winning the division imo.
Trust me, if Seattle loses today and drops to 3-3 NO ONE will be saying they have a (less than) 18% chance of making the playoffs.
