To further explain:
It is December 23, 1984. A 14 year old kid (me) begs his Dad to get tickets for the Rams wild card playoff game against the Giants because the game will be blacked out on local TV.
After the Rams lose in excruciating fashion (a handoff to Dwayne Crutchfield? Really??) I look at my uncle, who was there too. He looks back at me in this matter-of-fact way and says, "Well, there's always next year."
It was one of the worst things I'd ever heard.
Somewhere, deep down, I had a premonition, a foreboding, a sense that for many years this would be my only mournful solace as a Rams fan. There's always next year
So, for me, it is almost a blasphemy to talk of next year when we are finally, finally, FINALLY enjoying a promising season.
Am I completely overreacting to the title of your perfectly sensible post? One which I happen to agree with entirely?
Yes. Of course. Just thought I'd explain why.
