The first one is obvious - he's the best interior defensive lineman in the game. Maybe defensive lineman, period.
The second is the message that trading Donald would send to the rest of the league and its players.
In less than a year ... McVay and Snead and the rest of the front office have almost completely turned around the Rams' perception in league circles. Before them, it didn't matter they were in Los Angeles - they might as well have been in Pawtucket. No one cared.
Very soon ... if they aren't already ... the Los Angeles Rams are going to be a destination spot. A place free agents are going to want to go.
Losing Donald would make a lot of folks think twice about that.
The money is there.
Reward the man.
