Is the previous regime's one bright spot was evaluating defensive personnel. However they built a good defense for a completely different scheme all together. The Rams don't seem to have many players currently on the roster that are ideal for the 3-4 alignment. This means a lot of resources will either have to be spent on fixing that issue, to the detriment of those few fixes remaining on offense, or more ideally imo, the defense will need to be adjusted to it's personnel at least until we have the personnel to run it. Even if you want to install a zone blocking scheme (eventually) if your team is full of above average ground maulers you adjust until you can go where you want to go instead of forcing players unable to pull it off, try to.
They won't be able to upgrade in all the spots they need, but . . . right now, I'd say they need to go O-line, D-line and Linebacker early in the draft. Obviously, the better they do with young FA additions, the less pressure on Draft Day.
IMO, the Rams aren't that far away from being competitive now. They just need to hit on some picks in the trenches and linebacker. As mentioned, I think they're stocked at the skills positions on O. No need to go back to that well -- at least from what I can see so far. It's Front Seven on D and O-line. And they're there.
