Rams CB Trumaine Johnson named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Trumaine Johnson is the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, and on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, he played like it. The Los Angeles Rams star picked off one pass, forced and recovered a fumble, and allowed just two receptions for 25 yards on five targets.
He nearly outscored the Colts himself by returning an interception for a touchdown, and his performance was enough to earn him NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

He’s the first Rams defensive back to win the award in Week 1 of the season. It’s also the first time he’s been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week, so it’s quite the accomplishment for him.
Johnson, who’s currently playing this season on the franchise tag – the second time in as many years – is set to hit free agency in 2018. If he’s able to put together a campaign similar to the one he had in 2015 when he picked off seven passes, he’s going to continue to be the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.
If his Week 1 performance is any indication of how he’ll play this season, his stock is trending upwards, and his bank account could soon follow suit.
