"It was everything the Rams let slip through their fingers upon returning home to Los Angeles last season after spending the previous 21 years in St. Louis. Their 4-12 finish did more harm than anyone cares to admit, although one look at the crowd Sunday revealed a humbling reality.

The Rams distributed just over 60,000 tickets for their home opener, but the guess is only about 48,000 decided to show up. That’s an absurdly low turnout for an NFL game in a city as big as Los Angeles."



It's not surprising. With the presence of the Dodgers, Angels, USC, UCLA. Lakers-Los Angeles has never really been a huge NFL town. I've grown up here and watched the initial Ram game in the Coliseum in 1946. The post war population explosion brought people from all over and they came with their own football allegiance. I was not at the Coliseum yesterday but I suspect there were a great number of Colt fans present. The best crowds were in the early 50s before the Dodgers and Lakers when it was not unusual for a crowd of 100,000 to attend a Ram game and when most of those present were die hard Ram fans. I know I was there several times.
