Well I called him various things and have for a long time now. I said before he was drafted---while advocating drafting him---that he was not a pure receiver. That just meant you use him in various ways attuned to his strengths and what he does well. I thought they did that in 2015.
I do know that some actually did use the term "gadget" dismissively, That was their open intent and they defended using the term that way. That's what I was familiar with. Speed straightened me out when it came to him using the term and I acknowledged that., It was just not my prior experience with people using the term---people who, again, openly defended using it dismissively because their view was that unless he performed as a pure receiver he had little value.
I always called him a combined yards weapon (run, pass...combined yards). Fwiw.
