Youngblood was drafted in 1971, and not until 1980 did he take any public action to ask for more money. He played for 9 years and never complained publicly about his salary even after he was the Defensive Player of the Year in 1975.
He then played in 3 playoff games in 1979, including the Super Bowl, with a broken leg.
The following offseason he was a hold out during training camp but then reported for the regular season without receiving a raise. I remember that he commented at the time that he just wanted some time off and was happy to be back. The guy had a broken leg in January.
Youngblood it can be argued was the greatest Ram of all time based on his performance and his dedication to the Rams.
When Youngblood retired on August 27, 1985, he asked his career to be remembered for "dignity, integrity, respect and pride″.
Youngblood never acted like a jackasz on the field the way Donald did in SF last year.
I remember Jack Youngblood very well, and Aaron Donald is no Jack Youngblood. Jack Youngblood was and is ALL CLASS.
Aaron Donald, IMO, is a jackasz.
A better comparison for Donald is Dickerson. Another great football player who didn't put the team first.
