I think right now a majority of fans would think that the Rams should have taken Wentz over Goff due to Wentz's early successes.
However history says the odds are that the true drop back passer has the far better chance of winning the Superbowl than the QB/Athlete. I've said often that very mobile QBs usually do better early in their careers because of there legs. But.... way more often than not they hit the wall due to injury wear and tear, and because they don't develop their passing skills as much as the drop back passer who knows if he's having to run its going to be a bad day.
Looking back over the past 20 Superbowls, there were two times that a QB/Athlete (meaning a QB who could win games with his legs as well as his arm) won the Superbowl. Those were Wilson and Rogers (and even Rogers might not belong there because he uses his legs mostly for amazing pocket mobility rather than running for yards like Wilson does......but there are exceptions to every rule). The other 18 times the winners were drop back QBs. Guys like Brady, both Mannings, Warner, Breez, Flacco.
I just think that the history can't be ignored, and neither can the reality that a QB who is comfortable running......will. And in the end it seems that for various reasons that's probably not the best attribute if the goal is the Superbowl. If the goal is winning a couple of extra regular season games, perhaps.
