and, good or bad, let the kid get those snaps, reps, whatevers that lead to familiarity with looking over defenses; where's the safety, is there a blitz, what are they showing, pre-snap reads, go to the audible.....all of it.
think you have to take a couple more opportunities to let him do these things
btw, for all the clamor over some poor plays?
he did audible, he did a good job of seeing what the defense was doing, and was not all negative
granted it looked as if McVay and the OC took the gunpowder out of the entire last sequences
but this may be exactly what they do
don't dress Gurley, Whitworth, or take any undue chances.
would not surprise me to see the club take a hard whipping in Green Bay if they hold enough players out: how does that fit for the club as a psyche ?
I agree Goff did have some nice plays yesterday and have said that repeatedly. My concerns are centered a lot around "off-script" plays at this time and 2:00 min end of half, end of game situations where HE will have to play by the seat of his pants a lot of the time and make split second decisions about pre & post snap coverage's.
This is the big leagues now and this TEAM is LONG past "tryout camp", he's got to step up quickly or move a side. I'm not saying he CAN'T, what I AM saying is I'm not, AND I KNOW MCVAY IS NOT up for "well we will give him this entire season to see if he can improve.."
He'll have to show steady improvement with the understanding there will be hiccups along the way but if every time he makes a mistake it ends up in our EZ or to a short field....that ain't going to flush, not with McVay and certainly not with a guy like Sammy Watkins who will be a FA next spring.
Make no mistake, the clock is ticking on Goff...its not approaching midnight but it sure as hell aint morning!
