Marta doesn't really put me off much.. no matter how outrageous he gets. Right down to the bottom of my shoes I don't have much respect for Martz outside of what I think is the 'one' thing he can competently comment on... offenses. NOT specific players, and certainly not how to run a football team.
I do not mean, however, that I dislike him.... it's just that when he speaks outside of his area of expertise I just smile and think, "whatever, Mike".
Yeah that's how I take it too. And of course the writer who originally provided the quotation stands by his work. He openly says no Martz says what's in the quotation. So I assume that's the case.
My take? It's simple. Some are saying this is Martz being bitter, but to me it has nothing to do with bitterness or any of that. Martz is just being the cranky old guy next door who doesn't follow the news but is full of opinions. (Kinda like me.)
He just looked at it superficially and said why are they hiring one of the youngest coaches ever. They have a young qb, the coach can't have enough experience to guide him. Just a simple uninformed superficial take. Unlike us, he didn't spend days downloading articles about McVay and reading all his press conferences.
He might as well be saying
why don't young men shave these days what are they too lazy. Again, just the cranky out of touch old guy next door. That's all this is.
