I guess if that is your lens for evaluating Goff (or any player), then your expectations are going to fall significantly short. Because the mythical standard for a number one overall pick needs to be John Elway, but bigger, stronger, faster, and win more games earlier. Good luck with that.
I have seen Goff four or five times at training camp this year. He looks good. He still fits the mold of Matt Ryan to me. Confident. Great arm. More decisive. But right now he is Matt Ryan at his senior year at BC. Is that optimal? No, but if Goff becomes Matt Ryan-like (or better) eventually will it matter in 5 years that we had to wait a little longer for him to get there?
He just turned 22. The Rams knew this when they drafted him, and if you need to compare him to Number One Over All Pick Guy, feel free to be disappointed in the guy.
I think he is going to surprise a lot of people this year, most of whom will never admit they trashed the 21 year old version but can't bring themselves to admit that the kid is growing up. We'll see.
