When discussions come up about injuries, the prime question that follows is.."But how many of them were starters"? or that's misleading because many of them were back-ups.
Back-ups going out have a profound effect on starters especially if the back-ups are part of a rotation.
It forces the starters to play more minutes, it handicaps the coordinator in what he can do schematically, and in a lot of cases you probably have to ask a player to do something he's not prepared to do.
Now you're asking a rookie or another inexperienced player to play more snaps, or worst yet...out of position.
As I showed in a previous post Donalds snaps were down, that's obviously because he is an undersized dt and the coordinator was trying to keep him fresh.
Well what happens if your rotation is short a player or two?
Its the domino effect, there are ramifications throughout the entire chain.
Point taken, la.
Then again, sometimes injuries to one player can create opportunities for other players.
The Green/Warner scenario was a classic example.
