The meaning behind it could be evident through the voice inflection.
I have said "it's different" if asked about a particular food which implies it probably isn't very good. I could say the same thing with some enthusiasm and a smile and be praising something. Or I could say it in a bored monotone which implies nothing other than being polite and not wanting to talk about it. I suspect the latter in AO's response.
