***McVay's grandfather, John McVay, is a former San Francisco 49ers general manager, who was involved in constructing the five Super Bowl winning seasons for the team.***
McVay is a football lifer. It's not a job to him - it's who he *is*.
I feel like hiring McVay away from Washington was a master-stroke.
No one ... no one ... is thinking this is a Super Bowl-caliber football team. This year.
This is about the longer term - longer than most of us really want to think about.
This is about year two, three, four and so on.
This is a smart kid. This is an intuitive kid.
He's a Gruden disciple ... but he isn't smarmy like Gruden.
He's not an out-of-control ego like Kiffin.
At 31 ... he seems very, very balanced. Very focused. Very driven.
I really do not care what the Rams' record is this year.
I just want to see a better, more exciting product. I want to see real signs of progress - on both sides of the football, but especially on offense.
I want to feel as though a solid foundation is being placed.
That is what I want to watch happen.
