Having OL that are VERY tall when they stand up would block a QB's sight lines...and thus be not preferable. imo
As a former QB, having a
tall OGs/OC...I would think a bit blinding for the QB...I sure didn't like it when I played. imo
I would think that since
low-man wins the leverage game...and a QB likes to have a clear view for passing lanes...
that the clear evolution / natural selection of the coaches choice for interior OL traits would be
short, athletic and powerful.
So, I guess the
only redeeming quality for tall OL is that is usually comes with LONG arms...
and therefore,
arm length is more important and valued to OL coaches than I would ever have thot.
Kinda interesting...I sure would like to know the reasoning for some of the thought process and how the coaches see things.
