Which of Kroenke's sports teams are winners?

May 25, 2017 02:24AM
Answer? None of them. They are mediocre, lack luster, and have only modest fan support and have been that way for a long time. They are zombies; not exactly dead, and not exactly alive.

Stan can say whatever he wants; but it is clear to me that he sees his sports teams like Pop Tarts. They're just a brand, and an opportunity to take advantage of our capitalist system to make money in all kinds of ways by owning them. Pop Tarts have been around forever, without change, and while they don't tilt the market, they make money.....easily..... and just don't seem to ever go away.

His passion is money; not sports. Winning for Stan is when his sports teams make him more money.
The money he made by moving the Rams to LA is enormous. The Franchise in St. Louis was valued at around $850 million. The overnight move to LA made the Franchise worth more than $2 Billion. I don't care if you are a Saudi Oil Sheik: that's a lot of money.

Not saying it is impossible for any of his teams to be good. And,for the Rams anyway, it isn't for the lack of spending. The Rams are in no way cheap; and they always spend right to the cap limit. The problem is that Stan operates his teams with the passion of a bean counter and not a man driven to win. His personal involvement is minimal and his presence aloof. He puts someone in charge (usually finance oriented, like Demoff) and then lets them run it. Again, with what I can see from a distance, the balance sheet is what matters. Wins and Losses only matter insofar as they affect the bottom line.

So its not that Stan doesn't want to win; but that's not his priority. Priority #1 is money and profit. I guarantee you that the reason Fisher was fired was not the losing; it was the empty seats as the year came to a close and the balance sheet was starting to reflect that the losses on the field were causing profits to sink.

The one and only reason that I have some hope for the Rams is McVay. He is an all-in, break the mold, high energy, non-bean counting, non-conventional HC and has put together a staff that I think is a miracle in itself considering the Rams long history of losing. He seems to understand what he knows, and what he doesn't know (he may be an offensive wizard, but where are his defensive bonafides?), so he hires a D coach that has a career long track record of top level success. Smart.

What we have to pray for is that this will convert to winning. Because I truly don't think Stan cares that much one way or the other as long as at the end of the day, his bank account has increased and his new stadium has butts in the seats so he's not embarrassed on TV.
