That to me isn't benign. It means a distaste or hostility toward someone. We tend to be quite loose and carefree with words on message boards-I get that. Nevertheless, to say you don't like someone (i.e. dislike) w/o ever having met a person or know that person's habits or values, etc seems juvenile. If one "dislikes" the play and or performance of someone that's an entirely different story. So the question becomes what is the "subject" of the "dislike" ? The actual person or his performance on the field. The way the topic is framed- its the person. A possible exception could be Laurence Phillips. None of us "knew" him. What we did know was what he did according to the court proceedings as reported in the papers. However, if one reads his letters written from prison shortly before his death (murder or suicide) one gets a totally different feeling about him-especially those written to Vermeil. I guess I just don't care for someone saying they don't "like" someone simply based on how he performs on the field. A player may get drafted number one, get a ton of money, and simply can't perform to expectations because he really isn't that good-but how do you dislike him for not being as good as expected. All of us are envious (I am) of the money professional athletes earn and if a player holds our for money because its at the direction of his agent-why do we dislike the player himself when its really "envy" in US that is behind the hostility.
