At 290 lbs. the guy can play exactly one position: Center.
And even at that, he's on the low end of what an Oline player can weigh and still be able to compete against these defensive behemoths. At Center, quickness and technique can overcome a lot. At OG? Nope. You must have size.
He is too small to play OG. And there is no way you can have your back-up game day Center only able to play Center and not OG.
So, either he beats out Sullivan as a starter or he doesn't make the final cut. But who knows; he might.
Well there's another possibility.
If Sullivan misses time Blythe would be a reasonably experienced back-up, but not the future.
And meanwhile they also keep Eldrenkamp, assuming he does okay. But he's no vet and may be a year away.
Blythe might be a one year rental backup.
Yes he cannot play guard but then there are ways to work around that. Like, he's inactive unless they know in advance they're replacing Sullivan, then he starts.
I am not even predicting any of that, just thinking out loud about what the different possibilities are.
