No one knows what they have yet in the WRs/TEs from 2016. Those are mostly rookie numbers--and as such tell you nothing, really.

If the coach is making snap judgments about that then I don't trust him.

More to the point, McVay is adding the KIND OF RECEIVERS and TEs he likes for his system.

And of course there's the entire Snead drafting approach, which is to add players to an area you want to improve. Which is why, for example, they added 7 linemen in 2 drafts (2014-5).

So McVay adding his kind of guys to a young mix is not necessarily a judgment on last year's rookies at all. It's adding, creating competition, and sorting it out.

Chances are very likely they keep Tavon, Woods, Kupp, and Reynolds. But that leaves anywhere from 1 to 3 spots, and who knows how many of the 2016 acquisitions stick in that context. And also, given the notorious and well documented tendency of even the best receivers to start slow as rookies the majority of the time, nothing guarantees that the 2017 rookies start ahead of any 2016 guys who step up and come through.

I think it would be a strange coach who decides already at this point that he KNOWS what the 2016 rookies can do. More likely, he doesn't yet until he has had them for a summer. Therefore there are probably other, better explanations for why they added receivers this year on top of last year.

You are late to the party zn... already covered this weeks ago and projected McVay would draft 2 new rookie WR' s. Nothing in this response enlightened me but maybe it did somebody else that missed the trains from my past WR/TE postings in the last 6 -8 weeks.

bottom line.... nobody said McVay completely decided that he knows what the 2016 rookies can do. He has reviewed the film and a portion of the 2015 rookies were not up to par for what ever the reasons. Bringing in his own guys to better fit his scheme is common sense. An upgrade is an upgrade anyway you spin it.

If you’re looking at the wrong things, you’ll miss the point about Cooper Kupp
