Newton is the classic case of the Athlete/QB. He highlight reels are always with his legs, not his arm. And guess what: 2016 is his lowest RUSHING total. Why is he not running more? He has gotten terribly beat up. Even a man his size gets clobbered enough, he stops running so much; and getting beat up affects his throwing as well. And he was NEVER a great thrower. So, 2016 was a bad year for Cam because he wasn't dangerous running. His great years are pretty much over because his strong suit isn't passing the ball.

It's like I've said: the great Athlete QBs show us something very early in the career....often as a rookie... and the media jumps on their bandwagon. The media starts pronouncing these guys as the new breed of athlete QB.....and it never works out. RG3, Kap, Newton......Overnight sensations. Media darlings. But.....it was because of their running ability.

This is the wrong attribute for a QB to develop and have a good long career of leading his team to championships.

Yes, there are exceptions: Wilson for example. But you can't depend on the exceptions; they just happen. Wilson is going to get hurt running. And if it is serious, it will diminish his running. And when it does, his passing will suffer. Bound to happen.

In the end, it is the great pocket passers who have the longer, better careers and lead their teams to championships.
Hope we have one.
