Another thing is that you don't get the 5th year option on 2nd rounders like you do on 1st rounders, so you need to see more immediate contribution from them even though they don't cost as much.
I look at Kendricks as an example of a 2nd round TE who didn't cost much but was terrible his first couple of years. I have no idea why the Rams resigned him after he showed limited ability even if he didn't cost all that much. Average TE's offer very little value and have very little value on the open market. I don't like spending a high pick on them.
Jordon Reed was a 3rd round pick, thats about where I'd take a TE, unless I already had a playoff team that was solid in all the critical positions. But hey, we are dealing with a team that takes great pride in saying they have the best Punter in the NFL. Seriously, we have to stop this amateur hour stuff and build a team the right way and understand where the value and ROI is in drafting. Just ask the Lions fans who now wonder what their team was thinking when they drafted Eric Ebron over Beckham.
