Rams should focus on Pierre Garcon, Russell Okung in free agency

By Alden Gonzalez

Here are the moves the Los Angeles Rams should consider when free agency opens at 4 p.m. ET Thursday:

Beef up at receiver: The Rams' only established receiver is Tavon Austin, who was given a four-year, $42 million extension weeks before the 2016 season and then performed below expectations. Besides him, there's Bradley Marquez, who's better suited for special teams, and five rookies who didn't make much of an impact in 2016, headlined by Pharoh Cooper. The Rams need a couple of playmakers, but aren't expected to retain Kenny Britt or Brian Quick, who are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents. Alshon Jeffery is the major prize in free agency, but the likes of DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Kenny Stills and Terrelle Pryor Sr. are also appealing.

Find a left tackle: This could come in-house or from the outside. Offensive line coach Aaron Kromer expressed excitement about working with this group because the linemen are all so young. But Greg Robinson, the No. 2 overall pick in 2014, has had three seasons to prove himself as an NFL left tackle and has struggled mightily. A move to guard could be on the horizon, at which point the Rams could make veteran Rodger Saffold their starting left tackle or try to acquire someone from the outside. In free agency, there's Andrew Whitworth, Russell Okung and Riley Reiff. Through the draft, there's Wisconsin's Ryan Ramczyk, Utah's Garett Bolles and Alabama's Cam Robinson.
