At this point in the game, the Falcons defense was gassed. The Patriots ultimately ran twice as many plays as the Falcons, They came close a couple of times to a pick, but otherwise they were not stopping the Patriots and unlike the first half they were not getting to Brady. Calling an intelligent game takes all of this into account, burn the clock, maybe you get a another 1st down and really kill it or maybe you get 7. Even just a couple of runs would have been the difference. I suspect play action on a 3rd and 5 would have allowed an easy score, because the Patriots were desperate for a stop.
