I thought there were rumors that Thompson will assume a different role and Eliot Wolfe or someone else was going to take over as the GM? Could be why he and others pulled out of contention for the 49ers GM job. Not 100 percent sure on that, but it would make sense. Imagine Rodgers on a team with a competent defense and one that was willing to sign free agents.
