I think there are good reasons to be optimistic about the Rams' potential under McVay. He's assembling a staff of proven winners, and he is one himself.
His biggest knock is inexperience, which can only be remedied by... well... experience. And the Phillips DC hire adds to the staff experience in spades!
I think the Peter Principle is always in the backs of peoples' minds as a historically young fellow ascends. But the Peter Principle can ONLY ever be applied in retrospect. McVay will have to show incompetence, and he simply hasn't yet. I didn't want another guy fired from somewhere else, I want a guy who's excelled at everything he's done so far.
Regarding my title: I love hoping, when that hope has good reasons, because not all hope is created equal. This isn't going 3-6 and "hoping" to still make the playoffs. The sun is shining (even if not in Phoenix!) and good things are happening!
