Cable was not a successful HC in his first stint.
Clearly, he a is a good Oline coach.
But this is the problem with promoting assistants to HCs; too often the job they are being hired for is based upon the success of the job they've been doing. And there is not necessarily a correlation.
And it is the classic "retread" move in this case.
I have no idea who this Seahawk FO guy is, and whether or not he'd make a good GM for the Niners. But the young owner of the Niners has done a horrible job in hiring his key people and the result has been chaos and turnover; so I doubt much will change.
