There are tons that Austin could do. He isn't going to win 50 50 jump balls on the sidelines, but they could use him underneath on crossing patterns after other receivers clear out space by going deep or to the sidelines.
It is just the coaching staff was so basic, they didn't reach out to try to create space for Austin. There are many other plays that Austin could be used on as a WR, but it rarely happened.
The play I referred to did happen one game. It was executed beautifully and was a big chunk of yardage.
In terms of the receiver part of the game, they tried using Austin in several different ways since they drafted him.
There';s only so much he CAN do effectively.
And his limitations running patterns is only part of why is not a pure receiver.
Watch the guy. For example have you ever seen him adjust to an "off" throw or catch outside the frame of his body?
He just has limitations IF you try and use him exclusively as a pure receiver. Doing that forces him to do things he is not inherently good at, and also keeps him from doing other things he IS good at.
2015 was the best way to use him. Not acting like this or that coaching miracle will add things to his game that are not there.
