McVay's play calling has left a lot be desired. If your offense is Top 10 in average yards/carry, your overall rushing offense should rank in the Top 20 and Washington's did not.
Also, he's hanging his resume on the success of Kirk Cousins....a quarterback his own team doesn't even know if he's worth his asking price.
I mean that just goes the other way around. If the team doesn't think that much of Cousins BUT the OC got a lot out of him, that speaks well of the OC.
And the percentage a team passes is directly influenced by the score, which in turn is directly influenced by the effectiveness of the team's own defense.
So Washington is 28th on defense, yet 5th in offensive 3rd down conversion percentage.
That means the offense is effective while making up for a weak defense, and that in turn means passing a lot...out of necessity.
