Vance Joseph went to dinner with Broncos, is that a big deal?

Before leaving town to interview with the San Diego Chargers and San Francisco 49ers, head coach candidate Vance Joseph went to dinner with three members of the Denver Broncos staff on Tuesday evening.

Does that mean Joseph is on the verge of getting the job? Not necessarily.
Joseph, who currently serves as the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, was a college teammate of Matt Russell’s at Colorado University. Russell (pictured above) is now the team’s director of player personnel.
John Elway, the team’s executive vice president of football operations and general manager and Mark Thewes, their director of team administration, also went to dinner with Joseph. Though Elway and Thewes did not go to school with Joseph, Tuesday’s dinner may have been more of a friends going to dinner scenario than an extended interview scenario.
And, as Twitter has pointed out, Kyle Shanahan and Dave Toub were preparing for playoff games when they interviewed with Denver. Joseph has more time on his hands because Miami has already been eliminated from the postseason.
It’s also worth noting that then-free agent quarterback Brian Hoyer was also treated to a steak dinner when he visited the team this offseason, but the Broncos chose not to sign him.So with Joseph set to interview with two other NFL teams this week, Tuesday’s dinner with the team may not be an indication that he’s about to get the job.
In fact, Shanahan appears to be the new favorite.
