If I'm not mistaken, Haley replaced Bruce Ariens as Steelers' OC. Seems like, from an outsider, which I am, the Steelers haven't lost too much in that transaction. I think we can agree that Ariens does set a certain tone as an offensive coordinator. That Haley got the type of production out of that unit is telling.
Like a lot of coaches, sometimes they have to fail someplace to realize how they have to change. Have to assume that Haley would fall into that category.
And he is ... as lots of folks around here want ... a no-nonsense kind of guy. Not real warm and fuzzy. Not gonna coddle. Not gonna placate. He will demand execution.
On the downside ... perhaps that's not the type of personality that a kid like Goff needs right now. He's already been beaten about the head and shoulders by rubes like Chris Weinke and Rob Boras.
Hey ... I'd be doing handstands on ice if the Rams can convince Young Shanny to take the job.
But I also realize that all it will take for Young Shanny to enter the realm of re-tread is a few bad seasons as a head coach.
Best,
