From Hammond-
FYI, Rams' traveling interview group includes Kevin Demoff, Les Snead, Tony Pastoors. At some point, Stan Kroenke also becomes involved.
How can a coach be honest about personnel when GM is in the room? Would prefer another football man being involved, but we'll see how it goes...
Excellent catch, tony.
I missed that angle completely.
Unless the decision to retain Snead has already been made, it opens the door for some "awkward" answers from these candidates. Awkward in the sense that brutally honest personnel evals and certain other responses might involve antagonizing the GM boss sitting right before them and involved in their hiring decision.
And who would want a prospective HC candidate that was anything BUT brutally honest in his opinions?
Hmmmmm...
Does this not indicate that Snead is on much firmer ground than we had previously thought?
In a traditional power setup, isn’t it normal for the GM to be the boss and have a huge say in the coaching hire?
Coaches have had to give brutally honest personnel evals to GM bosses for decades. I’d say if the coach can’t handle that, then they probably don’t have the stomach and character to work with a GM in leading a football team. I bet strong differences of opinion on players are very common and resolving that type of conflict is normal for that job.
And if the GM is not gonna be the boss, there is even less reason to hold back on honesty.
