Rams travel to face Patriots at a precarious time

By Alden Gonzalez

LOS ANGELES -- If you're desperate for positive news amid a Los Angeles Rams season that appears to be spiraling, know this: Jeff Fisher has been outscored by the New England Patriots 104-7 in his last two games against them.

Sorry.

The Patriots beat up on Fisher's Tennessee Titans, 59-0, in 2009, then routed the then-St. Louis Rams, 45-7, in London in 2012. Fisher is in desperate need of a change in trend. His team is coming off a 49-21 humiliation at the hands of the New Orleans Saints, giving the Rams six losses in seven games for the first time since Fisher took over in 2012. And now he is embroiled in a public spat with Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson, a Los Angeles Rams legend who is upset and believes that Fisher has basically banned him from the sidelines.

The Patriots will be at home and are favored by 13 1/2 points, but they weren't necessarily impressive in a win over the New York Jets on Sunday. And otherworldly tight end Rob Gronkowski is a major question this week after tweaking his back.

So, there -- something positive for the Rams.

Below are six opposing players to watch, courtesy of ESPN Patriots reporter Mike Reiss ...

QB Tom Brady: Returning after serving a four-game suspension as part of the NFL's Deflategate penalties, Brady quickly put himself into the MVP conversation by making up ground on the field quickly. He just tied Peyton Manning for first place on the all-time wins list (200) and looks to put his name alone atop the list on Sunday against the Rams, the team he helped beat in Super Bowl XXXVI to start the team's dynastic run of success that is still ongoing. He is 175 of 256 for 2,201 yards, with 18 touchdowns and 1 interception this season.
