it is was a SNAFU. The PR guy, Artis Twyman, who deals with players on daily basis is one who called and did it on his own volition. Dick got offended and went public, then the controversy got to Demoff and Fish and they tried to smooth it over. I don't know for sure, but this is what I heard, FWIW
It is a case of one hand not knowing what the other was doing.
And I'd guess there's some truth to it. More than enough for plausible deniability. But it's doubtful this was truly a completely independent and isolated action. In other words, the PR guy might not have been acting on orders, but he probably thought he was acting on an understanding.
It could all be nothing more than an innocent misunderstanding, but it's more probable it's just the latest peephole into the dysfunction.
