The defense improved since the Detroit game.

The receivers came through in the Detroit game and then as a group fell apart in the Giants game. At least we know they can do better.

They will work on the running game during the bye. Reminds me of 2014 when they got no sacks for 6 weeks then it changed when they fixed it. Or I hope it will remind us of that. cool smiley

You get the defense of the Giants game, the receiver play of the Detroit game, and a running game going and you are in win now mode.

The rookie can then sit because the vast, vast majority of the time, rookie qbs struggle. So in effect you are forced between win now mode or play the rookie qb mode...it's one or the other.

BTW I have no urgency when it comes to starting Goff because we know from all NFL history that you can develop a rookie qb by sitting him. You can also play him and take your losses to give him reps. There is nothing out there that will ever convincingly demonstrate that one approach is inherently better. They can both work (and they can both fail). We already know that from the combined weight of all NFL history. It's choose your poison with no "one true way" about it.

....

See you highlight the problem: Fisher can’t seem to get all of his units to do well at the same time.

I see the QB situation a little differently than you do. I don’t see it as a choice between win now mode or rookie QB mode. Rookie QBs do struggle but…Newflash: Keenum is struggling.

Even if you take away 2 of those INTs, he had a bad game yesterday. The end result looked closer to the SF and Seattle game than it did to the offensive outputs of the TB and Det. games.

With the offense only scoring 10 points, one again has to include the SF and Seattle games as part of his overall body of work despite the temptation to want to exclude those games. He’s thrown more INTs than TDs overall when the primary purpose of starting him was that he would limit mistakes. He’s thrown pick 6s one of which was a direct and significant factor in losing a game. (Buffalo game.) He’s thrown critical INTs even after having a career game. (Detroit game.) In every game where it was his job to hold a lead, he’s failed to lead the offense on any time consuming drive and they usually end up going three and out forcing the D to have to make a big play. (TB game as the primary exhibit.)

The sad reality is, Keenum is struggling. He's had more games this season where his contribution would lead more to a loss than it would to a win; IOW, he's been a net negative. Thus, the logic justifying his starting has fallen apart.

My position is, they would have just as much of a chance, if not a greater chance, of winning now with Goff starting.
