Rookie questions as far as the eye can see, huh?

October 20, 2016 06:47AM
A puzzling rookie class so far, to be sure.

Some quality ST snaps for Thomas and a few quality snaps for Forrest.

Higbee has had lots of snaps but virtually no impact. Still only one reception for 2 yards, I believe.

Not a helluva lot to show for an entire 6 pick rookie class, is it?

Yeah, a lot of late picks due to the trade. But still...

Did S&F make bad picks? Or is the problem an inability to develop their rookies? Or both?

Britt and Quick have played beyond expectations and certainly deserve their starter status. We all get that.

But Tavon? He's struggled this year as a receiver. So it's fair to say that the door should be open for SOMEONE to step up as a slot receiver. But nooooo... both Cooper and especially Spruce are not getting snaps, much less targets. Again, does that mean that the staff has selected undevelopable players? Or does it mean they can't develop rookies? Or does it mean that Fisher is stubbornly determined to keep pounding a square peg into a round hole with Tavon? Pick one, y'all.

Higbee? Such an enigma. Some "experts" claimed that he was a 2nd rounder but for the off field issues. Had an impressive camp and preseason. But now, he's MIA. How does such a dramatic retrogression happen? And it's lasted through 6 games? Yeah, TE rookies are typically slow to develop, I know. But this? It's virtual non development.

But Fisher's crowning rookie achievement remains in a class by itself, doesn't it? Drafting Goff #1 overall with 6 premium picks over 2 years and then not giving him a single snap through 6 games. While other teams with other rookie QB's are thriving with their kids. Either Fisher picked the wrong QB or his staff can't develop his QB in a timely manner. Been a long time since a team drafted a QB #1 overall and didn't start him on opening day, much less almost halfway through the season. Not a good look for Fisher, either way you slice it.

Yeah, I'm frustrated. And frankly, I don't see any end in sight to this mediocrity.
