Ratings are way down this year. The NFL may well have saturated the market and kinda stepped on their own product. Go back to Sunday's only, get rid of the exhibition season, and stay with 16 games. Have the Super Bowl in January, instead of February.
I think baseball needs to go back to 154 games, too, and a shorter NBA season is also in order.
Sports team owners got waaay too greedy and have diluted their product with too many teams, too many games, and too many nights. IMO, time to dial it back a bit, make each game more important, special . . . and this has the side-benefit, especially in football, of keeping the players healthier for longer periods of time.
I really don't think that's why ratings are down this year. I think it has more to do with fans being turned off by what the new SF starting QB took a stance on and how there has been a domino effect.
I think so too. Also, the lack of star-power. Both theories may be put to the test after November 8th. Players like Tom Brady will be back and election season will be over.
I still think a huge reason for it is saturation. Americans have so many choices now for entertainment, whenever and wherever they want it. IMO, we have too much and it dilutes the feeling that this or that is a special "event." The NFL has kinda stepped on its own product by making it ubiquitous, instead of that special day in the week where we all gather, etc.
A huge mistake, from my pov. And it takes a greater toll on players.
