It has been since 1964, Hurricane Dora, when Jacksonville had REALLY bad damage from a Hurricane. Matthew is gonna literally shave our coast at Cat 4 level. My shift starts tomorrow but have been recalled 12 hours early at 8PM tonight. My Wife and I have done all we can to prepare. Checked with my ex and she and my two boys are ready. Tropical Storm winds will kick in around 6 AM and get worse throughout tomorrow. As of now, Jacksonville will see the worst starting around 8PM tomorrow. Thankfully, we all live a good 20 -25 miles from the coast, so my family will not get the VERY worst....so far. Not thrilled about being at work during this but...... The next 36 hours is gonna be interesting to say the least, for Florida.
I lived in Fleming Island Plantation for 6 months back in '08. There were 2 tropical Storms while we were there, Faye and Irene. Torrential rain for days during both. I can't imagine a Category 3 or 4 going through there. Be safe bro, 20-25 miles in is not very far for a monster like this one. My parents live in Polk Co. and they will have Tropical Storm conditions.
I just cancelled my Cruise that was set for Saturday out of Port Canaveral. I just hope there isn't too much flooding and power outages. Good Luck and be safe!
