I realize the emphasis on protecting the QB and that it was a close call, but I just rewatched the play a few times and the whistle blows right at the time Tree makes contact. It wasn't a vicious hit, it wasn't to the QB's head and Tree didn't make contact with his helmet. So what was the infraction???
In Hoculi's words, "After the quarterback was sacked, unnecessary roughness..."
How could he have been sacked if the whistle had not been blown until Tree hits him? If Winston had his arm free and he threw the ball, they would have ruled it incomplete. How many times have we seen Russell Wilson avoid a sack in such a situation?
I realize I see things through Rams-colored glasses (the old Blue and Yellows, btw), but that was a bad call.
