I thought he played a great game (but also that he made strides over last year relative to a rough rookie campaign).

But even more impressive and gutsy knowing about the injury. I can't imagine playing on a broken toe, hopefully med staff determined he can't make it worse (toe injuries ended the careers of players like Deion Sanders and O.J. McDuffie).

I did hear a story (possibly apocryphal, but had a ring of truth) once about a drummer playing a concert at a football stadium who could barely move due to intense back pain, and a doctor or trainer hooked him up with some meds, and in no time he felt like he could do jumping jacks and cartwheels. So he made the gig. But after, he said he felt 10 X worse. Just not natural to numb out the agonized nerves screaming to SHUT DOWN until the body heals natural, though I realize this is SOP in the NFL, and one reason many players have such short careers. I think Schlereth said he had something like 25-30 separate surgeries, the most I ever heard.
