Not sure why you'd be surprised, a person doesn't rise to the level he's at by being biased and personal in their broadcast's. His comment(s) about the move from an earlier time were his opinion, and were not made while he was doing a broadcast of a sporting event. IMO he's the consummate professional when it comes to performing his craft.
He's a chip off the old block, his old man, Jack Buck, did the local baseball Cardinals radio broadcast for decades. You'd never know he was the local broadcast team, I never noticed any discernable favoritism or bias. Just painted the picture, as an excellent radio play by play man will do. He did some national broadcasts' too, him and Hank Stram did football for a while. He still did the local play by play for Cardinals games almost until the very end.
